I'm trying to figure out if my 41 has the correct top latches.  Can't find a good picture.  Two have slightly off set handles and the center one is straight.  The handles are fairly small.  Overall length not counting the threads is about 4.5 in and handle is about 1/2 in at widest place.  I could Email a photo but still need to figure out how to get a picture in this post.

I'm assuming there were flat washers under the nut that takes the load. ?  Are there nuts on each side of the bracket or just the one that takes the load. ?  Also are how long are the 5/16-18 threads suppose to be.  Mine seem longer that they need to be, at slightly over one inch.  Thanks for any guidance from you conv. experts out there.   -  Paul  -

I don't have my car in front of me, but the description of the latches matches what I have.  I'm not sure about the bolts and nuts though, I'll have to look this weekend.

That sounds about right for what was on my 41 convertible Paul, I remember them being off set, and apart from that offset they were virtually the same size as on my other GM convertibles from 1937.  My 37 60 series was all original before I started restoration and they never had any washers, nor did they had more than one nut, they are threaded in the bracket and the one nut locks them in the required position, I would think that was the same on most years using this type of bracket, but I could be wrong.

I looked at mine this weekend, and there are chrome nuts and washers on each side of the part that latches.  The threaded part is rather long, so that it can be adjusted for the correct tension.

Do you not have a thread in the bracket then Steve? Does it just rely on the nuts for position?

Thanks SRK and Steve.  Yeah - the threads on mine were so long I had to take about 1/16th off of each one so they would not hit the metal part above them.  They are on and work OK but I think I have two left side parts as the handles are both off set in the same direction.  Thanks again for your help.    Paul   -  23300
