Thanks to all who responded to my post. I look forward to hearing experienced advice. When I bought car, didn't know what LaSalle was. Found CLC online while doing research. Already joined, number 28696. Also have '07 Escalade. I live between Johnstown and Altoona PA. Would like to meet any members near me.

More on car, body is fairly solid. Car sat outside for many years my guess. Engine has very little compression. Will need rebuilt. It is a 322. Has 2 sets of numbers on block. The engine number with 5 sided star before number also at right angle number 2D14145. This is a very complete car. Has no data plate on firewall.

Conrad,

Welcome aboard!  Always glad to have another member.  We're all here to help one another.

There is also a LaSalle Chapter of the CLC you'll want to get acquainted with.  Contact Chapter President Jack Hotz in Haddonfield, NJ.  JacksCaddy@aol.com  Jack also owns a '39 LaSalle like yours.

Hello Conrad,

First, I want to welcome you to the club and this forum.

Second, I want to recommend you purchase an authenticity manual for your specific car.

Third, Restoration is a daunting task especially if you intend to maintain authenticity which I personally recommend. Not knowing your abilities you may  want to acquire some manuals and literature that will assist you in your project.

Forth, I recommend you spend the fee and find out the delivery date, and specific trim, colors, and options that were on your car when it was new. This can still be done through the club I think.

It is quite satisfying to restore a car to somewhat original condition. For my 1942- 6719  I deviated in upholstery color by selecting an original color option but different than original. I was happy to learn the original color was Antoinette Blue  but would have selected it anyway if the original color had been a color I did not like.

This forum will be a helpful resource as you proceed and  the only stupid question is the unasked question.

Hello Conrad

Welcome to the Cadillac & LaSalle Club and the CLC Forum!

Glad to read you have acquired a LaSalle.  Assess, evaluate and move within YOUR budget.  I am available if you have any questions.
All good men own a Cadillac but great gentlemen drive a LaSalle. That is the consequence of success.
