Title: 66 DeVille quarter script mounting template
Post by: Chuck Swanson on February 11, 2018, 03:43:00 PM
Anyone have, or maybe can make, a template for the holes for the convertible "DeVille" quarter script for a '66.  Made a mistake a while back and covered the two holes on each side when doing the body work.  Picture of one removed would work, but ideally a trace on a piece of paper, maybe then scanned as a pdf would be great...center molding and send of quarter panel would be a good guide.  Size of holes?  Anyone also know the size pins used to mount?   I believe they are just pressed in, no?  Thanks!  Chuck

Do you have the scripts? It's just two pins, center point distance from the two pins is all that you need.

Yes I have them on my car (same script from 1965-70),  but I'm not pulling them off to measure the pin distance.

Yes, have the scripts, but wanted the original distance from back of car to first back mount of emblem vs guestimating :)  I then can of course measure the distance to front hole.  Height above center long moulding would be goo too.  Chuck

Remove the trunk side cardboard liners. You should be able to see where the holes were filled.

Thanks for the reply...I wish, but there is a second reinforced metal panel in trunk behind cardboard, so you can't see holes from inside trunk.

It's got to be the same from 1965-70, but my passenger side has all the jack stuff and the driver side has two amplifiers so I can get in back. The pins were held by those little speed nuts or trim nuts.

I can measure from the bottom of the script to the top edge pf the molding and from the last "e" to the quarter edge (driver side) on my car if you want.

This is a totally radical idea.  I don’t know if it will work but I think it is worth a try.  This assumes the holes were filled with a putty and not welded up.  Using the strongest magnet you have, run it over the area with some padding to protect the paint.  Collect some iron filings from around a grinder or other source.  Then sprinkle the filings on the area where you think the holes are.  If I am right the filings will stick to the car and form circles around the holes.  It might help to magnetize the iron filings too.
