Title: WTB: gas pedal and other for 1957 Biarritz
Post by: Valts on February 12, 2018, 04:10:41 PM
Hi!

I am looking a complete gas pedal for 1957 Biarritz project. The one we have now, has some kind of hardware-store hinge welded on it. Need a correct and good-looking pedal assembly. May need cleanup and paint ofcourse.

Also need these arch-shaped sheetmetal strips that are mounted in front of the dasboard top pad, just beside the windshield. In good, no- rusted condition.

And also looking for these little sheetmetal fixing pieces that hold the rubber go-thru piece on the firewall. May need cleanup and coating.
Picture.

Would be great if the seller could ship the parts directly to Europe, but if not then I have a friend in Portland who could organize the overseas shipping.

Contact PM or vallo.kylvi(at)gmail.com

The complete restoration project is going together but some of small parts are missing or in non-restorable shape. 1957 and 58 should be all the same parts I believe

Thanks!

I got my gas entire pedal assembly out of the Arizona vintage parts guy.   www.arizonavintageparts.com   I don't know if he has any more, but it's a start.   There's another desert one to try, hiddenvalleyautoparts.com but he didn't have as much.   Desert valley didn't have any 57-58 parts at last contact.   You find the better sheet metal out west.
There must be an issue with these 57-58 pedals breaking because the one in my car was also badly repaired, well, more like atrociously welded - if you could call slag weld.   There's a few other west coast parts places to try for sheetmetal, like allcads, etc, or they can give leads.   A couple US restorers, like CPR also sell parts.  A quick internet search will give you many leads.  There's a compilation of Cad parts sellers available online on the modifiedcadillac.org site.   I believe there's a biarritz parts only guy too, but name escapes me.   Dave King may know more.   Good luck.   A trip to Hershey or getting someone to look for you, may be fruitful.  There's several on here that sell there.   There's a Cad parts guy in Norway or Sweden, if I recall.
Not aware of anyone making small repro stamped sheetmetal items.   Generally, when those firewall parts are bad you're starting with a parts car or one in really bad shape.   Those are common to all models I think, so should be able to scare a decent one up.   Parts are getting more and more scarce in this vintage, even in the last few years.  Prices are rising.   So I can appreciate how much more difficult it is from across the pond.   Generally, one can repair most seriously damaged sheet metal, but if it's missing and you don't have a pattern...

Just remember that the Eldo pedal has the extra ss dress up trim.  You can start with a generic 57 58 pedal and add the trim later. eBay is where. Would be looking for smaller stuff.

I am sure I have one.  The problem is to figure out which one is std. Cadillac Eldo vs. Eldorado Brougham.  The is a slight difference I and don't recall which one is which.

Still looking for 57 Biarritz gas pedal. May be regular 57-58 pedal as well, as they seem to be idential, just missing the stainless trim. Should be in good condition.

We got a 58 series 62 pedal to repair ours. Out machinist could make new hinge etc, but the rubber pad is also ruined and it cannot be used.

Any offers are welcome.

Altough we found those little sheetmetal parts that fix the rubber piece on firewall. From ebay luckily. No need for those

I have a 57-58 non Eldo gas pedal. The rubber is in good shape. It pivots freely. The bottom mounting ear broke off, but it is with the pedal and can possibly be brazed back on. Pictures attached. If interested I'm asking $45 plus shipping. If you give me the country you are in I can get a shipping price for you. Thanx Frank

If you have a pedal assy with bad rubber, try Steele Rubber, (800) 447 - 0849, (704) 463-9343.
https://www.steelerubber.com/contact
They revulcanize gas pedals, not sure about this one.   Metal repair will probably destroy the rubber, if good.   But I'm of the opinion the only difference is the deco SS trim.   That was a common GM ploy for upgrade packages.   That can probably be made by patterning and laser/water jet cutting out of polished stock and bending.   They were probably stamped originally, but can't afford a die set for one part.
The brake and ebrake pads are reproduced by Steele, and they supply most everyone else, but prices maybe lower from others.  (Don't tell them I said that - I live too close by)

Vallo,
I tried messaging you, but I don't think it was sent. It shows error. You can contact me on the board or at fpuma49@verizon.net.  I saw the pictures of the car. Your metal fabrication is outstanding. It amazes me how the car looked after media blasting. Shipping to Estonia is $23 for a total of $68. I do take Paypal and my Paypal address is my email. I am not good at the messaging, better to contact me on the board or my email. Thanx Frank
