I need the rear bumper guards and center plate for my 38-6127 coupe. I had the rear bumper rechromed at Gateway Plating in st. louis. They did a great job. The bumper gurrds that were on the car don't fix. They are not like the front.and the center plate had already been rechromed and the word cadillac is bearly readable. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Jim. I have a centre plate for the 38 model here in England if you cant find one in your own country (which I doubt)  Its not in great condition and would need chroming but would do if you had no alternative. I could send you a picture if you like.

While my 38-6119 is a "Driver" and has been since my High School days (60's), it will never be restored to "Show" quality while I have it.  If my center bumper "Cadillac" plates are better then the ones you have I would consider a trade at no cost to help with your restoration.  Mine is 100% stock and shall remain so and I continue to drive it weekly.  While not perfect I would consider them in pretty good shape.

I know this is an old topic.  But I need Bumper guards for my 1938 series 75 and one of the plates.  Do you have the ones that you took off the car, do you think they belong to a 75?

Wow, this is an old post Thomas,  In 2011 I actually bought the car related to this thread and I do still have a bumper plate I spoke of but there was something mentioned on this forum by Joe Ceretti  that theres a difference in the script between the series, not a major difference, just depends how correct you want it to be. Mine is a little beat up.

The script (font) in the picture of Phil's car is 38.  The plate is the same for all series including V-16.  In 39 the font is bolder and repo's that have been done have been 39 style.  I know of no repo's currently available.  If you went to your Cadillac dealer in 42 and bought this plate you got the 39 plate.  The 38 part number is not listed but the 38 and 39 plate are listed to be the same.

The difference is in the heaviness of the script. Not in the series, the difference lies in the change of years, 38 is lighter, 39 is heavier. Also, the entire plate in 38 is much thinner than the plate in 39 which is much heavier. I currently have excellent condition 39 plates on my car and would love to find two 38 plates. I DO have two 38 plates but they are in terrible condition. They were in such bad condition that I had to weld up holes and hammer them flat which took me hours to do. Then I used spot putty to fill all the remaining dents and painted them. They are in my garage.

In my opinion the 39 plates do look better AND they fit the same profile on my 38 bumpers BUT they are not correct if you are looking for 100% correct. 100% correct is my goal and while not really attainable I am aiming high. FYI, much of the information I have garnered in this respect has been from Brad. His knowledge is fantastic, I hope to someday even come close to what he knows about this subject.
