Hydomatic, 1949, when I shut it off it leaks tranmission fluid
at bottom of trans. There is a small cover with two screws at the bottom of the housing holding the converter. Doesnt leak when running. Any help would be appreciated.  Art

From your description, the leak would be from a seal where the torus cover enters the front pump, and drives the transmission. That seal and the rear U-joint seal are prone to leaking with age, more than mileage, though normal wear is to be expected. There isnt really any easy fix for this. It involves dropping the transmission and replacing the seal.

But, if the transmission is out of the car, as it would then be, the logical operation would be to open it up and install a complete seal kit. Its going to cost a few bucks, but it will not be long before either the rear shaft seal leaks (replacable with the trans. in the car), or it will begin to shift poorly, because the seals in the clutches will be hardened and broken.

 Ive been there!
