Hi Jerry

They have different part #'s but I don't know if they fit.
Part # for 71-78 steel wheels is 1602602
This is from my Motor's Crash Estimating Guide May 1979
That same edition shows part # 1616377 for 1979 eldo steel wheels.
Now it gets interesting...The March 1991 Motor's Crash Estimating Guide shows 79-85 eldo steel wheels as part # 9590967.
So did one number just supercede the others or maybe there were minor changes like size of the slots or offset? I would guess bolt pattern would be the same, it is for RWD cars right into the 90's.

Im pretty sure the 66-78 was different than the 79-85.  I think the read the later ones used the smaller bolt pattern, were narrower, slightly different offset, and the hubcap fit differently.  Some of the very early ones I think were slightly different due to the early brakes.

Jer,

Totally different, will not fit at all.

What do you need wheels for?  I have some.

G'day Jer,

I think another problem with trying to use the earlier wheels if they fitted would be the weight difference.

Those '70's wheels would put a real strain on the HT4100 powered vehicles.   Plus, they would act like separate flywheels at each corner of the vehicle. ;D

I'm getting a correct size set of tires for the 73 [235x15] and I have 225x15 on there now I have [205x15] on the 84 and the touring edition calls for 225's so I was hoping to just move the tires from the 73 to the 84 and mount and balance only 4 wheels JerRita

I thought the original 73 tire was sort of in between the 235 and the 225.  I have 225's on my good car.  It had original bias tires on it when I got it and to me they did not look any different.  One of my cars has 235 car tires and the look a lot bigger, the other has 235 LT's with blackwalls and those look huge.

Watch the aspect ratio of the tires. The Touring Edition called for P225 70R15's. They have a wider section than a P225 75R15 would, but are not as tall. They are closer in height to a P215 75R15.

A set of P225 75R15's may be too tall and create interference with the fenders. Likely you have P215 75R15's  on there now which will be about the same height as the P225 70R15.

Good point about aspects, in my post (and on my cars) I have 75 series 15's.  I suppose now days the 70 series is just as rare.
