I suddenly find myself going on a business trip to Florida for 1 1/2 weeks. I don't know where exactly I'll be, although I will be going between different locations in the southern half of the state (I assume). Are there any good salvage yards or other places of interest to visit?

Evan,
If I had to be in the area I'd stop by,  http://www.sobeclassics.com/  ,to see if they are for real and what's on their floor.

If you're in the Naples area check out the Collier collection, one of the country's finest pre-war collections. Not very Cadillac related but well worth the visit anyways in my opinion. Gary Cooper's SSJ Duesenberg Roadster is reason enough alone to visit!

Southern Florida salvage yards have very little to offer beyond 90s models. The climate is just too moist and property values too high, have to go out west for that.

If you come through Lakeland Florida I would be happy to show you my '60 Eldorado Biarritz work in progress (about 75% complete). There is also a broker friend of mine that has a showroom that often has vintage Cadillacs on display. His business is web site is MJCClassicCars.com, if you want to take a look.

Stop by Ted Vernon's, he sells classic cars and has a show on Velocity.  He said his store is now a tourist attraction.

There's a Packard museum around Ft. Lauderdale, I would recommend it.

If you are on the west coast go to  http://musclecarcity.net/ in Punta Gorda.

No Cadillacs but the have a huge collection of Chevys, Olds, Pontiacs, etc.   I'm not a Muscle car guy but I was impressed.
They have quite a few non Muscle cars that are stock too.

I'd like my 1984 Convertible to go to a CLC member... I've several members who live up north and have expressed interest.  If you're in the Melbourne, FLorida ares, the car is in indoor storage 1 mile off of 95, and you might provide some additional narrative regarding the car's condition and drivability.    James Landi jglandi@aol.com

Thanks everybody. I never really got into that South Beach Classics show, the barrage of overly dramatized car flipper/fixing shows has left me a bit jaded, and I never really gave it a chance. It's a good idea, but I have a feeling that "tourist attraction" translates to "$20 showroom entry fee" and I feel like I'd get the hard sell on a '32 Ford hot rod as soon as i walked in the door ;D. I found out that I'll be sharing a rental car with the other guy I'm going down with, so long trips to museums/peoples houses are looking to be out of the question, as nice as it sounds.

Sounds like you need to enroll your travel partner into our car culture........

The Boca Concours (for the benefit of Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County) is a large well attended show.  In addition, this year there is a Classic Car Club of America Grand Classic there on Sunday.
