FWIW when I had to change the water pump on my 76 Coupe de Elegance the first thing (other than plugs, hoses and belts) that has been changed on the motor since new (110K miles) I was very much surprised as to the condition of the front cover. Virtually NO rust. I got this car from the original owner about 10 years ago, and it obviously was taken care of before I got it.  By the way that's all original dirt on the motor. This is one that I haven't touched.

No need to let that poor engine sit feeling unloved with no dirt on it. I am still working on the 55 so I can FedEx you about 20 pounds of oil and dirt if you want??
