1937 LaSalle coupe

Hello everyone. I was looking at my Delco distributor for my 1937 LaSalle and discovered that the centrifugal advance mechanism is froze up. I took off the 2 weights and springs. On some distributors there is a clip underneath the rotor to remove. Doesn't seem to be a clip on the top of the Delco # 665-G model. I don't want to take the lower gear off if I don't have to. Just wondering if anyone knows how to remove the advance mechanism ? THANKS... John Lehman... CLC #26365...

John,

Once you pull the springs off and remove the advance arms it should just pull up and off. I don't remember any clips holding it one.

Oh, if this is not a show car, and you don't have the original AA25 Stromberg with the electric choke, you might consider installing a 1940 to 1948 distributor with the vacuum advance. Car runs smoother and gets better gas mileage.

Good Luck.

I have just installed a distributor with a vacuum advance on my 39 LaSalle. Where do I hook the vacuum advance up to?
I have the stock carter carb on.
Thanx

Tom,

If you have a stock 39 Carter carburetor the answer is nowhere.

The vacuum advance piping goes to the port in the base of the carburetor. So you need to get a later base or perchance this one just has a plug in it. If so you can remove the plug.
