Should a Cadillac purported to be a Hess & Eisenhardt conversion have the unique H/E hood ornament and not the crown & crest? Were there times when they didn't offer their unique hood ornament on their conversions?

The Hess and Eisenhardt hood emblem seems to be missing from
A lot of these cars. I don't know if they all had them installed from day one.
I have two Hess Eldorado's and one had a badly pitted one in the glovebox when I got the car but had a gold hood and trunk emblem installed after a repaint.

There is a guy in California reproducing them in small batches and putting them in ebay and they look good but sell for $500.00. Ouch!!

Id love to have one but not for $500.

The 55 and 56 wagons had a plate on the seat that replaced the Fisher body or Fleetwood plate.  My 56 wagon plates were missing.  A  sentimental previous owner had them removed as a memento.  Another 56 wagon owner sent me one of his, and I had them duplicated exactly.  I no longer have the car, but I do have one set left of the 6 sets I had reproduced.  It is up North, but if anyone wanted to see them or buy them I could try to have my neighbor find it on my memorabilia shelves and take a picture of it.  And it isn't anywhere near $500 either.

My father was a dealer for Hess & Eisenhardt (1966-1980s) and I never saw a unique hood ornament but as was stated just a dash plate.  There may be early examples when they started out as S+S but none that I have seen.

The late 70's and 80's had the ornament in place of the regular one. It's on all of the brochures.

Brian is correct - and I believe there may have been more than one variant of ornament.

I also believe Walter McCall mentions the special ornament in his book, 80 Years of Cadillac & La Salle and there is a factory (H & E) photo shown as well.

Agreed - a standard factory issue ornament would do for me before I'd shell out five bills for a repop. It's better looking anyway besides, the car is first & foremost...a Cadillac.  8)

I would like to have a proper emblem for my 1980 Eldo.

There was a badly corroded one with the car and it was in a box of spare parts in the trunk.
It looked like it was pot metal with a flash of chrome on it and if I could find it, I would look into having it fixed and chromed.

I'm not sure where it got to.

They were also used on H & E limousines and hearses.  A lot of funeral homes swapped them out for the Cadillac ornament so the fleets all matched.
