'93 Fleetwood Brougham - no green instrument panel lights!

Hi All, Greetings from Ireland
The green digital instrument panel on my '93 Fleetwood Brougham just went blank. Has been flickering with shaded black lines across the green for a while. Normally a tap to the side of the dash above the shift lever brought it back into line. Then occasionally it would be dark except 1 or 2 small dots in the centre - a tap (not a bang!) on the top of the dash pad would make it light up. Now no amount of tapping, banging in the general are or sweet words of encouragement makes it light up.

Where do I start looking fora diagnosis please? Thanks all. Nick CLC 23023
