1940 Lasalle 5227C aluminum trim at Threshold
« on: October 24, 2017, 04:58:48 AM »
Hi guys have started working on my Lasalle 5227C, it appears that the floor is in terrible shape. The Lasalle auminum trims on the threshold are heavily oxidised. I am looking for a pair for my coupe which are in good shape.

I am attaching some pictures. PM me if you have pair for sale else if you know where these are available or fabricated please help me with the details.

I will be starting a restoration thread on the car shortly.

Thanks Steve for the link I am contacting them to see if they have one with lasalle printed instead of Cadillac. Otherwise Iíll have to take my pair to a Aluminum repair guy and just weld a new piece and refinish these.

The Master Parts List does NOT list a separate sill plate for Cadillacs and LaSalles. (If the ones you have do say LaSalle, I apologize as they may have cut some corners after they dropped LaSalle.) On a used car or to repair accident damage, they would have been more interested in fit rather than make "new" correct ones for the very, very few that might be needed. Back then, they didn't have crazy people that restored old cars...

So, anyhow, if you wish to do so, you can install the reproductions and not get any point deduction if you have the car judged as "it's in the book" that having "Cadillac" on it is "correct."

You can buy these direct from the guy that makes them at Door Sills, 973-423-1196, NJ.  Long delivery time but an incredible bargain for a beautiful piece of work.  It will have LaSalle printed on them.  He makes them for the dealers that typically sell them.

I received some 1949 CDV ones from him a few months ago so he is around.  Try calling at different times.  His mother handles the calls and paperwork.  FedEx messed up the delivery on them.  I discovered they were delivered to a Walmart 30 minutes away.  No help from FedEx.  They were willing to give up the insurance on them (or say they never got them) instead of working on finding them.  Amazingly enough Walmart helped and they found them in their shipment.  It is about a 6 month (or more) wait so when I am doing a car this is one of the first things I order, not that I get a car done in 6 months but I am always thinking the price will go up on these but not much for at least 20 years.

Okay is he substantially cheaper than going with the retails guys?. I have someone here in Mumbai India who can make these in chrome plated brass. But for sake of authenticity I would prefer to go with the original aluminum material. Iíll try calling him again today letís see.

The last pair I bought from him at Hershey were $250 Amol.(4 years ago)  He sells to the other vendors so they add their profit.  Different prices for different models.
