Does anyone have any experience with a Seville Opera Coupe? I had never seen one until just now. I don't think I can un-see it!

I suppose if you can't buy the Munster Koach, this could be the next best thing? :-)

Yup.

I almost bought the ultimate garish tacky tasteless Cadillac convertible ever.  It had an engine fire but at the time I had a complete 81 running Eldo to swap it out with.  Just didn't work out at that time.  I did not have any extra money, and it was winter and I had nowhere to put the thing.  I was going to remove the phony sidemounts to streamline the thing a bit.

See below...

Again, I did NOT buy it.  I heard it went to Texas.

They were made by the Grandeur Motor Car Corporation of Pompano Beach Florida from 1978 through 1984.

They came in Coupes mostly, but a few sedans and convertibles were made.

Sammy Davis Jr owned a silver one.

At least one was made without the side mounts

Where's a V16 when you need one?

:)

Brian,

I like the side mounts.  It looks like the length was made by splicing two front fenders together, the rear part of one fender to a full section of another, and the side mount hid the seam.  You make be in for more work than you think if you make this change.

It is a pity that they never actually placed spare wheels inside those covers.   Or did they?

Don't underestimate cars like this in the story of how Cadillac lost the standard of the world tag.  I like stock 2nd gen Sevilles, but trunk straps, continental kits, fender spares and gold everything screamed nouveau riche, which except for very certain places, is never really in style.

Scott,

I never bought the car so it's a non issue.  My brother in law is a Packard collector.  He has a lot of cars from the 20's through 1956.  On many of his cars there are no side mounts but rather single or dual rear spares.  The sleek look of the fenders sweeping down to the running boards with the absence of the sidemounts to break up the lines makes these cars more attractive to some, including me.

Not to mention the ease of working under the hood without the sidemounts.

The one on Ebay is mine....
Interesting car to say the least

Mine has 18645 miles on it and was ordered new for a lady in Northern California

The sidemounts are without tires. Mine has a full extra wire wheel in the trunk along with a custom made car cover

And something that uses an Eldorado chassis but looks nothing like an Eldorado: A FWD school bus!
