I'm stuck on my project and I was wondering if someone knew what the tightening torque is for the nut that keeps the bearing in place at the rear axel.

You probably are not going to find the spec. Cadillac for many years did not permit its Service Stations to service rear axles. They required them to remove the carrier (nose) and return it to factory for service. Are you looking for nut on the pinion shaft or the side carrier bearing?
There is a spec for the pinion nut for 1941-52 except series 75 and CC. These used a 7/8 " shaft (225ft/lb). I believe your shaft is 1/2" , the same as the 75/CC above. Don't try anything near 225! In the shop manuals they give instructions on replacing the pinion seal,of this period. They tell you to measure the torque it takes to turn the carrier BEFORE you remove the nut , and then tighten it to return that torque (drag).Warren
It ist the nut 1-5/8'' out side off the brake drum.

I don't think there is a setting for the drum nuts, I stand on a 2 foot bar till it won't move anymore.
The 1948 shop 'manual gives a torque tightness of 285 to 315 ft lbs on a 1" 14 thread size. That should be about the equivalent of standing on the two foot pipe. Harry
