This car is just full of surprises..............
I found this mounted under dash above accelerator pedal on a 1929 LaSalle.
It was inside the can shown in one of the pics--
light socket connected to longer lead
could be an add-on
.............any ideas?

Maybe a vibrator for a radio?

Actually after seeing the wires coming out from the center, its probably the transformer part of a battery charger.

This one is similar. Note the screw in bulb socket.
