Can't help you with the tires, but I have a suggestion fot the vinyl top.

There is a product called "Tuff Stuff" that's in a spray can available at
any Auto Parts store or K-Mart, etc.  It's a great product for cleaning
vinyl.  Just follow direstions (spray on, if very dirty scrub GENTLY with
a soft bristle brush, wait 3-4 minutes and hose off).  If it's a white
top you may have to repeat this step to get it spiffy.  Do this in the
shade or in your garage NOT IN DIRECT SUN.

You'll then need to apply a vinyl top wax (which nobody makes anymore).
However, a vinyl floor way applied with a damp piece of terry cloth
works well (it's chemically the same thing).  I like K-Mart's house brand.
I've used it for 20 years with excellent results.

Unfortunately these and several other tires were dropped from prodution by Michelin, parent company of Uniroyal.  Even if old stock could be located it would far exceed the six year death date placed on tires by the manufacturers.  Your only hope will be Coker or one of the other classic tire resources.Michelin has also dropped the XW4 whitwall tire which came on many of the Broughams.

Hi.  I have a question about the longevity of the tires.  I have a set of 4 of the original Uniroyal gold seal tires I took off my 1989 Brougham in 2005.  They only have 20,000 miles on the treads and are in great shape.  I have them stored in two boxes in the basement.  I plan on using them next year when I pick up a low mileage "collector" Brougham (I have a daily driver Brougham right now).   Will the tires go bad just being stored in a dry house basement?  I plan on getting an extra set of Rims and using the tires only for shows in the summer.  Thanks. Mike.

Mike,

Everything I have read tells me that six or seven years is about the longest you want to use tires on a car to be driven at highway speeds.  If the tires are to be used strictly on a trailer queen or swapped out at the site of a show you are probably OK with a tire of any age.  The link below is an example of information available on the internet through google on this topic.  Look near the end of the page.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the link and the information - it answered a few questions.  I'll plan on putting the tires on for car shows only (and get a nice set from Blackdiamond for regular driving)- just as I do with my 1960 Cadillac Fleetwood which was riding on only it's second set of US Royal Tires when I bought the car from the original owner...Radials otherwise.

Thanks, Mike
