General Discussion / Re: USA headlights vs other re...

Reading what Bruce had always said about lights 'downunder', they drive on the right side of the vehicle on the left side of the road. Their headlights on low beam would have to 'dip' to the left and the high beams, up and to the right.

I read about the differing LED lighting in the EU and the way people complain about bright lights here. From what I read, the lighting has sensors to detect oncoming traffic and dim or brighten the lights in accordance to the needs of the sensors and ambient lighting.

A quick search on Amazon will give you quite a bit of "Fits This Vehicle" results. I amazed at what is still easily available at sites like Amazon for these cars. At least as far back as 1969.

Mr Doyle has proven why the CLC Forum should belong to members only.

Actual CLC members have notified the moderators and are tired of this BS on our forum.

When Mr Doyle can show evidence of his "donations" to support our PRIVATE organizations paid-for forum, his credibility may be restored.

Until that time, this pointless thread will be locked.

Sincerely, your friendly, neighborhood "Forum Nazi" (as moderators have been called, in the past)

Prove me wrong, and I will reopen the thread.

Have you seen a kit that is specifically made for this Cadillac carb?  I have seen universal kits that don't look as reliable.  The specific ones also look like a fair amount of work to install, there is drilling and tapping presumably of the carb to install them.

I'm curious to hear about the pump.  Looking at photos of the THM400 it looks like its got to be pretty durable but its most likely what was binding the engine so its hard to tell how hard you were pushing on it.

The shop will most likely be happy to demonstrate the installation process to you when you pick it up unless business is real slow and they want to see you back again soon. Seeing how far back it should go and how and what it feels like especially that last step.  The splines don't take too much rotation to engage but its possible to get the pump way off and have to turn 180 to get it back in.

Is the hood pulling itself down at the back by the cowl/windshield?

Some pictures may help us try and figure out what you have going on there.  If we can figure out which stock system was there and how much is left we can help you come up with options.  One system was just used for 3 1/2 years and its pushing 50 years since they quit using it and the other is even older.

On the cruise if that was all you had hooked up when you were testing then that is likely your issue.  If you were tapped in somewhere else there are other places you could have a leak.  There is a T between the transducer and servo that goes to the brake pedal.  When the pedal is at rest there is a valve that closes so the system can generate vacuum. If the pedal is pressed at all the valve opens to dump any vacuum in the system.  This is the safety feature so that even if there is some other electrical or mechanical malfunction in the system pressing the brake will release/prevent it from being able to yank on the gas.  Just like the servo its rare to have that valve fail but it is possible.

How are you doing the testing?   A hand operated vacuum pump/gauge?  That's how I would be testing the system.

Check with two that I mentioned above. I think that they have on-line catalogs.

I'm not retired and was just responding in the same manner that you have been posting; a bit arrogant and know-it-all.

Owners tend to worry about external leaks, but
the seals you need to be concerned about are on
the pistons of the rotating clutch packs.  They
age regardless of miles, and burning up a clutch
pack will ruin a decent trans.

A few more times with the trans, and you will be
good at it.  A couple special tools (mine are
mostly home made) will really help.
good luck, Bruce Roe

Enjoy some photos from a day in the life of Capitol Cadillac in Washington, D.C. in 1963.  They were taken just a few months before the famous March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech.
