I'll be changing the PCV valve too. Manual states on page 6-81 that the breather should be cleaned every 6K miles. Judging by the condition of the air filter and power steering fluid today, (see the restoration thread for more ugly details) this has never been done. How do I do this ladies and gentlemen, please leave no step out as I've never done this before.

Thank you!

Get a can of brake part cleaner spray. Wear rubber gloves and eye protection. (face shield is best) Wear old cloths that you don't mind getting stained with oil.   Spray the cleaner into the valve and breather until run off is clean.
Use a catch bucket and dispose of accordingly.

Update: Mike CLC also recommended just soaking in gasoline for a half hour, shake it out and let it dry. Then a few tablespoons of any 30w oil into the filter, if anyone else was interested. I'm sure the brake cleaner works great too, but its $7 at Autozone and I have 15 gallons of fuel in my fuel farm, LOL!

How about diesel?  If you are on a farm you likely have plenty of that around too.    That will leave behind an oil film.

Gasoline, mineral spirits, diesel fuel, brake cleaner --- all will work.
I use gasoline, usually av-gas if I have some, it doesn't leave a strong odor behind on your hands or clothes.

"fuel farm" meaning I have 3 - 5 gallon tanks of gas treated with Sta-Bil and Techron for my topped off generator
in the event of a power failure, which are common around here.

LAURIE:  What does RAWK suppose to mean?  EAM

RAWK = rock! ergo rock'n roll!!
Or, "you're the best", "thank you" etc.
In other words a term of endearment.

Soaked it in gas for 30 minutes... one of the previous owner turnips painted it with Rustoleum or something and most of the paint came off. Douched it again, this time with brake cleaner, in and out. Blew out with the compressor, dried thoroughly, and sprayed again with Rustoleum. Replace tomorrow.

As long as the compressor was warmed up I blew out the whole engine bay, stuffed rags into the holes left by the breather valve. What crud, road dirt, leaves, pine needles... Blew out the drains at the windshield/hood area, the door and trunk hinge areas. I see a lot of POR-15 in my future, its all good.
