Looking for a steering box for 1939 Cadillac series 75. Believe 38-40 fits not 41 and must be 75 series.

Is yours missing or just in need of repair?

There is a company in Minnesota that rebuilds them:  http://www.larescorp.com/   If in need of repair, it might worth a phone call or email.

I am expecting the worst with mine. thought I would pick up another in better shape and make a good one out of two. I already emailed them and they wanted me to ship mine for rebuild. If it got lost then what? Id be out of use till I found one. Didn't want to risk mine just yet. Erring on caution. Parts for 75 series aren't as plentiful as 60 series.

Thanks for the info though, I'll probably use them for the rebuild.

Alex,
Hi. Lares does awesome work. I've used them for years for later model stuff (50's, 60's, and  70's), and  have nothing but great things to say about them. They could not rebuild my '47 box because they said it was too far gone, and I respect their honesty on that issue.  So….all in all, it cost me weeks in lost time and shipping both ways. I could have bought a used box from someone cheaper, so don't get your hopes up  (and save yourself some time/money) if the box has a lot of play, damaged gears, or too worn out internally to be repaired. I purchased the rebuild thru Rockauto, and it was close to 1/2 price of going thru them directly. When I called and inquired, they were honest enough to tell me to go thru Rockauto,  because there was absolutely no difference in the rebuild quality at all. It was cheaper because they are their biggest vendor (volume wise), so they get a nice discount and pass it on. I thought it was cool that they explained that to me over the phone before I shipped it out. Fast turnaround time, and just good ol' fashioned quality service.

I have one off a '38-90 and I may have one off a '38-75 series.  I think they are the same -- CHECK.  I suspect the one off the 38-90 is good, and possibly rebuilt, as I bought a chassis and it appeared the whole thing had been professionally rebuilt and painted.  $500 if you want it.  I can sent pictures of course.  Thanks.
