Will the ECM unit from a 1986 DeVille work in a 1983 DeVille

George Woodford clc21025

Is it the same engine size and type, HT 4100?

dan

Yes, Same type and engine size

Is this from a RWD to FWD deVille? If so it will not work.

But, GM used the same ECM for many car lines in those days, just the PROM was changed to accomodate the car and engine. There will be a part number on the ECM. Compare it to the one from the other car. If they are the same, swap over the PROM and you should be good to go.

But, the EFI systems did change significantly between 83 and 86. I could see one from an 82 to 84 be interchangible, as these cars were pretty similar.

Thanks for the info. Both ECMS are from RWD cars, but the part numbers dont match. Ill have to look for a 1983 ECM and use my PROM in that one.

The ECMs are still available from the GM dealer for the 1983 Deville.  Cost is about $100.  ECM does not include the PROM.
