Knee Action Shock Absorber Fluid

The knee action shock absorbers in 1930s/1940s  Cadillacs....what is the right fluid for these  ???

It's called, naturally, shock absorber fluid.  I think Kanter's sell it.

Dan    Yup  you're right,.,,I should have done a search first.     There's almost no subject of interest to an owner of an old Cadillac that hasn't been discussed on this excellent forum   ( and usually multiple times )

I used hydraulic jack oil to keep them filled. Because the fronts were seeping when I bought the car I had Apple Hydraulic rebuild them all. You could call Apple and see what they use when they rebuild the shocks.

Charlie - The rebuild did improve the ride. They hadn't been touched for 76 years - their response was so so and the fronts seeped oil. A few months later I replaced the bushings on the rear springs, which was an improvement also. The old bushings were atrified.
