Today is a great day!! Here in NJ it was sunny and in the mid 70's!!  Hard to believe it's February!! To top it off, I also received my newest addition to my collection. Around 1pm this afternoon my Azure blue 53 Eldo got delivered to my shop.  It's a mostly original car that has 33k miles on it.  It's had a respray in its original color years ago that is now showing its age.  The original interior is in nice shape.  The conv top must have been replaced at some point because it seems to pliable to be 64 yrs old.  The car will need some hydraulic work on the windows and top. The tires will need to be replaced and a tuneup and fluids change will also be performed.  After going through the mechanical she will receive a full detail.  That will make this old girl shine!! Had a chance to put the to down and go grab some fuel around the corner from my shop.  What an amazing Friday afternoon in February in NJ!!

Thanks

Jeremy, congratulations on your magnificent '53 Eldorado Convertible in Azure Blue! It is a beauty, and a most significant model in Cadillac history! Keep us updated as you improve it (and thanks for the pictures, too)!  8)

Jeremy,
I am officially jealous that you now have - to my mind - the crown jewel of the mid century of cars.
Have fun,

Congrats, Jeremy , gorgeous find. you are one lucky Eldo owner. is the chrome original too? Dave

Thanks everyone

The car has been underground and off the radar forever.  My friend Marc found the car in a collection in Tennessee.  The car isn't on the 53 Eldorado registry.  The gentleman was getting on in years and felt like it was time to thin out his collection.  I'm very pleased that I get to be the cars curator for its next phase of its life.  Can't wait to introduce her to my other 53.

Glad it got to you safely and that it was as expected.

Your collection is growing and you really have some great cars.

Now it's your turn to put your touch on it and make it even nicer.

Can't wait to see it in person.

Most definitely one N I C E Caddy!
This gives me hope that there are more out there just sitting waiting for someone to budge an owner to part with one.
Another testament to patience and persistence.

Any day is a good day to get an Eldorado.   Downside to it being in February is you don't want to think about the temp in July especially if the AC isn't working.

...assuming the car has A/C to begin with... ;)

Unfortunately that creature comfort was unavailable on any open Cadillac model prior to 1956.

Hey everybody

Thanks for all the kind words and support!! I've spent sometime replacing all of the fluids, the radiator hoses, the dry rotted tires and I've installed a rebuilt fuel pump.  The car runs and drives like a low mileage car should!!  Just had her out today and took some more pics!!

Thanks

I saw this car in person last week and it is a fantastic survivor with one repaint.

Jeremy... You could have put a little more effort into getting the blue off of the tires... ;) ;) 8)

The only way to get the blue off is a good scrub using basic soap and water, and a scrubbing brush.

Hey Brian

Next step is redoing all of the hydraulic cylinders, for the seat, windows and top.  Then the cars off to my detailer, where he will tackle the white walls!!

Thanks

What a lovely car!

I found the best way, since the blue coating is a wax base, to remove it, is a bucket of hot water.  It will melt right off.
