Attn : Tim Pawl!     Any info on these coins?      Were they given out on Race day at Indy or as give-aways by the dealers?

It is larger than a 50 cent piece.

Its a pity that someone wrote on the cover. And looking on the text that was written and the text stated on the coins the written text wasn't adding anything. So basically someone devalued this.

Cover?    It is just a common coin holder so collectors can label them and insert them into a binder page.  They sell them to hold any coin.   They come blank, you slide in your coin, staple it shut and then label it.   It didn't come with the coin originally and has nothing to do with it.

Okay thanks for informing of this. I never collected any coins so wasn't aware of this system. To me it looked like something that would have been supplied with the coin originally. And any non-original text written usually devalues an item. That goes for books, poster and so on. So once again I'm glad to have learned something today and wish you a pleasant day.

Those look neat.   I have never seen them before.  I wonder if that was something they did every year?

I did a quick search, looks like "someone" makes them as commemoratives of the race & car.  Don't know any more than that.

Looks to be good buy though.  I'm not a '73 guy, I mighta  bought it for that much.

Some quick searching turned up a few other similar coins but it doesn't look like it was an every year sort of thing.

Is a coin something that is fairly easy to make these days?  In the old days it was actually quite a project that required a real artist to hand carve the original?
