Greetings,

I'm going need some help with this one!

My best friend's father in law (Jerry) owned this car since the sixties. He had done partial restoration of the car at some point over the years and it was a nice driver quality car from the pictures.

When he retired, he took the car down and began replacing rusted rocker panels, floor pans, removing trim and having it re-plated etc. I saw the car a few times over the years when I went with my friend to weld in a patch panel or help him with a two man task. In 2007 all of the metal work had been completed. The body had been blocked and primed and was ready to be painted and then Jerry got sick... He passed away in 2008.

The car went to his wife's brother but he did little with it other than occasionally start it up and let it run. The interior, the dash, the side glass, bumpers, lights and all of the trim had been removed for paint so the car was not driveable. In 2015 he passed away from cancer and my best friend ended up with the car and now it has come to me.

I trailered the car back to Marble Falls last week and started going through everything to see what I have and what I don't. Thus far the only thing I know is missing is the gas tank. He may have had it out for cleaning and never got it back. Many items have been re-plated. Bumpers/grille are complete but will need plating. Drivetrain is intact and appears to be in nice shape. Undercarriage has been cleaned up nicely and painted. Body looks arrow straight and will need minimal prep for paint. Car has AC, power windows, power seats, autronic eye, AM radio.

Cowl tag  shows 6239 EDX
Trim 40B
Paint 10
ACC   EHKNY

I realize the car is not extremely valuable, but I'm going finish what Jerry started.

I could use a good source for manuals. Would like an assembly manual and shop manual if they are available. I'm sure I'll be back to ask many questions as I start to put the puzzle together.

Thanks in advance for the help.

If you make it near Ft Worth give John Foust of Honest John's Cadillac corner a visit.

That should get you reading for a while  ;)

Hopefully the engine got hot when he had it running from time to time.

Thanks for the links to the manuals and the other info!

Since I only see a 1958 manual supplement, is the intent to use the 1957 manual along with the 1958 supplement?

I'll try to get some pictures up. Working graveyards for one more night.

Thanks, Steve

Yes.  Here is a reprint that supposedly covers both.

I appreciate the information.

Are there assembly manuals or body service manuals available for these models? I've used them with Oldsmobiles and they provided a lot of detail. I haven't looked over the online manual yet to see how in depth it is.

Thanks once again, Steve

There's a separate '58 Cad owners group, you can join for a small one time fee.   Info/parts from all over the world.
I haven't come across an assembly manual for '58.   The two manuals have most all the repair info I've needed.   CLC has an '58 authenicity manual for $40.   Useful for details.
You can get more '58 spec info from the GM archives also.   You can download the whole literature package (400+ pgs) free.

Thanks Jim. I'm checking the heritage center now and will check out the other sources.
