Does anyone know where I can get this cable?

Thank you!

Dave

If you can find a store with books and staff that knows that they exist the cable book will show the various ends so you identify that you need say a type C and F end then flip through the book and find an assembly close to the proper length.

Try your local NAPA store and proceed as TJ suggests.  Talk to the oldest looking counter person you can find there   ;D --- NAPA has what you need to make your own cable.

If NAPA is a no go, give ol' Bob a call.  He hooked up my buddy for his speedo cable on his '57.

the cable wire itself broke.. everything else was in good shape, I was "supposed" to be able to just pull out the cable one side of the kit the wire was square... the other side was round, you cut to length then there was a square piece that slide over the cable and a crimp tool to secure the other end.

As hard as it was getting the old cable out... even if I did get it out, how the hell I was supposed to thread the new one was the next mystery.

The outer cable may be full of crud making removal of the inner cable difficult.  Under normal conditions the inner cable is (should be) easy to slide in and out.  The outer cable probably needs a good solvent soaking and an air gun to blow it out --- maybe repeat more than once.

The question to ask yourself is how, and where did it break?

It could be that the outer casing requires replacing as well, as speedo cables usually last longer than the car itself.

the cable broke at the transmission the last inch that goes inside. If I could just replace it, I most certinally would =)

There has to be a reason for why it broke, as these things are virtually bullet proof, as they are that simple.

The worst thing for a speedo cable is kinks in the routing of the outer cable.

my best guess is it 50 years old and it wore out.

The Tassie Devil(le)

BUT, there has to be a reason for it wearing out.

These things only spin the speedo magnet, and the odometer, and if there are gentle curves, they will last forever.

I would be inspecting the outer housing, out of the car, and see if there are any kinks.

These cables are just thinner versions of those in the Power Seats, and the Top mechanisms for the '71 to '76 Eldo Convertibles.
