Took my radiator to shop where they tried to boil it without success. Now they are telling me they can drill into the tank for $400 or recore for $1000. Any better suggestions from the experts???

Because they can't boil it out, the chances are that if they could it would leak like a sieve.   New core is the way to go (unless Bob has one) but make sure they fit the thickest they can. That's usually one row of cores less than standard and is around 3 1/2"   In this country that's a commercial core. Standard large modern car size is only 3"  Not enough in my mind.  It always surprises me the high cost of this in the US where things are usually cheaper than here. $1000 for a core? phew. :o
