Can anyone tell me the bearing number used for 1939 LaSalle REAR WHEEL BEARING?  This would be for my 1939 Eureka LaSalle carved hearse, which I believe started out as a 50--  series.  Any recommendations for suppliers?  Anything special I need to know changing it out?  Many thanks!  Tom

A 1939 LaSalle Series 50 REAR WHEEL BEARING is Cadillac part number 954 848.  You can probably buy one from the Olcar Bearing Company, Southern Pines NC.  Phone: 910-693-3324.  No email.  Confirm the bearing number with the proprietor, George Bachleda.

My parts book which covers 1935-1949 Cadillac and Lasalle says the part number is 954 172.  In addition to others, this part is used on '39 series 50,60S,61  '40 series 50,52,60S,62,72   all '41   all'42    '46-'49 except CC.  I can't explain the discrepancy.

Tom, sorry for the tardy reply, but I've been away on a trip.  My 1935-55 Master Part List states that the bearing with part number 954172 was superseded by bearing 954848 on 12-1-1954.  It doesn't say what the difference is.

Hello Jay, I thought that was the most likely explanation.

Thank you all for the replies.  I purchased new bearings and seals from Olcar Bearing.  Service was very prompt, the bearings and seals fit perfectly, the car is back on the road.
