Need a right rear fender spear for 1942-6719.  About 59 inches long. Not sure if other models or later years have the same one??

I took mine to a plating shop and never got it back?

I think 1946 and 1947 work??

Gary,

You need one from a 1942 series 61, 63, or 67.  You might be able to use one from a 1946 or 47 series 61 - but I fear it will be shorter than the 1942 version due to the wrap-around rear bumper on the '46/'47.

Yours is part number 144 4221 Gary and the 46 has a completely different number so there are considerable differences as Jeff said because of that larger bumper in 46.  Why did you never get it back? Its too big to loose. Did hey destroy it?

Jeff and Steve, thanks to both of you for he information.   I took it to the plating shop along with a fender in September 2015. The spear had been bent to fit a damaged fender at one time or another and he specializes in correcting things like that. He says he reconfigured the spear and I picked up my fender but he kept the spear for plating. Every time I go there I get a different story and I suspect he sent it out with another order and has been unable to retrieve it. I have a spare but it has numerous rust holes on the bottom surface and a couple on the top. It is from my parts car which was a black out model. If I can not find a replacement I will have to repair and refinish that one unless he finds mine?

Gary, if you have one to repair, go for it, as you have a very, very, very rare car. The last one I saw of these I believe was at the Boston GN and it was "done" with pieces of trim left off of the car. I can't be sure, but I believe that the piece you need was left off of each rear fender.

Barry, You are right, I remember talking to the owner of the '42 67 Series in Boston and his commenting he had to leave the RR fender spear off due to not being able to find one. He was later at Hershey with the car for sale and the spear was still missing.      Harry

Barry and Harry,

You are making me feel lucky I kept the rusted out spears from my parts car. When I get back from Las Vegas I will start looking for someone to restore the one I have. I estimate 20% of the metal is gone but the ends and crease are in good condition.

I remember seeing a 1942-6719 beautifully restored but he was missing the chrome trim on the 4" wide trim band on the back of the front seat divider.  I lost his information and he had sold the car a couple of years ago.  I found contact information for the current owner Thanksgiving time last year. I sent my spare. Very unlikely I would ever need it and he asked me the price.  I could not charge him, it was scrap to me and a great find for him.   Unobtanium parts are hard to price anyway.

Shop finally found my spear, he was to repair it to follow the curve of the fender which I left with him.  I picked it up today and he had Copper-ed it but is has the wrong curvature for the same fender I had left with him. Now I have to put some curve back it to fit properly. Do any of you have any experience reshaping trim?

My first idea is to affix it to my spare fender and put tension on it with the bolts through the interior clip and heat it with what we used to call a rosebud torch tip. This idea sort of scares me because if I foul it up it will set me back months and $$$.

Does anybody have any ideas on how to accomplish this?

Gary,
Hi. Make a template of the curve out of cardboard. You'll have to most likely add some metal to the existing spear and then using the cardboard as a rough template, you could grind it down a little at a time until you get it just right. Most all E-type bumpers never fit properly whether they are original or aftermarket. It takes a lot of patience, but if you want it to follow the curvature of the bodywork, you have to put the time in. We usually fit them up, grind, add, re-grind, etc. after the car's in final primer, then send them out to the plater. It's just like taking the time to get all the panel gaps perfect. It just takes time and patience......
