Nice Condition, Spins Freely, Zero Play. Good for a Spare. Paid $50.00 for it, can't use it. Just want to get my money back if anyone is interested.     Thanks,

Bobby,

Are you sure it fits a 346 flathead for a 41 Cadillac?  Is it painted in the proper green Cadillac engine color?

Bill,
Hi….The person I purchased it from claims it fits '38-'42 flatheads, and he sells nothing but vintage Cadillac parts. It is Cadillac Green. It doesn't fit my '47 flathead. It's slightly different, Although in pictures it looks the same. Maybe someone can verify this.
                                                                  Thanks,

I can believe it doesn't fit your 47 Bob if its meant for an earlier car.  . I have 3 brackets here all different, all for flatheads.
As the cars got lower through the years the radiator got lower and so where the fan sat had to get lower.  What you have is defiantly Cadillac though and looks like the one on my 37 & 38.
It annoys me when people sell parts on ebay and claim it fits all flatheads, they don't necessarily.   There were many changes to throughout the years.

Bobby,
Steve is correct. There are 4 different styles between 37 & 41. Get the casting # & I'll tell you what it fits.

Steve & Bob,
Thank you for the help. Looks like the bracket was brush painted  and I can't read any numbers. I just compared it to my '47 and here's what I found: The '47 pulley is deeper and the bracket is slotted. This one has a closed bracket for the engine mounting nut. I've posted another pic if it helps. Definitely don't want to sell something to somebody that doesn't fit. Appreciate it,

Here are two pictures of a 41 fan support bracket. Picture one shows the casting number of 1441115 which identifies the fan support bracket in the parts book as only for 41. 42-48 took a fan support bracket carrying a 1444686. The difference I found between the 41 bracket and the 42-48 was the adjusting slot depth in the 41 was about 2 & 1/4 inches while the 42-48 was about 2 & 5/8 inches.   Bill

Bobby, Your bracket is identical to my 37 and my 38. I don't have my 39 here with me so can't heck how it changed for that year but my 41 is the same as Bills picture.

Bobby,

This won't work on my 41, as mine is exactly like Bill Ingler's photo.  Thanks anyway.  And my personal thanks to Bill Ingler, Bob Hoffman, and S Passmore for their contributions.

Bill: Do you need this 41 fan bracket as I sold my 41 and it is surplus to me?   Bill

Bobby B

All's well that ends well….Bill makes a sale and Bill gets the RIGHT part! Still need help identifying the piece if anybody can help, so I can get rid of it.

Bobby: I thought Steve identified your bracket as fitting 37 and 38 by one of his posting?   Bill

Bobby B

Bill,
Hi. I guess I'm hovering between '38-'40. I'm going to try and grab the casting number off it and post it so maybe somebody could identify it exactly.
                  Thanks,

Bobby: Here are the parts numbers from the book. As in the 41, the number shown in the parts book matched the casting number on the bracket but this might not be the case for all years as some brackets might not show a number.  Bill

Bill Ingler,

I need both the fan idler bracket and pulley for my 41 60S; I will keep them as a spare if you have both.  Please advise.

Bill,
Hi. There are no casting numbers anywhere to be found. The person I purchased it from awhile back actually returned my e-mail regarding this. He is a member, but I purchased it on eBay. The ad stated it fits '38-'42, but it obviously doesn't. He now said it was in a pile of parts that he purchased from someone else who owned a '38, so now it all makes sense.  Although the ebay ad title stated it fits '38-'42 , he now claims he said it "may" fit. His fault for not being specific and my fault for not doing my homework. It's still useless to me, but now I can re-advertise it and not feel that I'm trying to sell somebody something that doesn't fit their application.  Once again, thank you all for  the help!

Bobby; Reprints of the Master Body Parts Book as well as the Master Chassis Parts Book are available from Faxon Auto Literature 1-800-458-2734.  Both books have some exploded views of some areas of the car but don`t expect that all areas are covered. Both parts books are excellent for reference. My books cover years 35-48.    Bill
