Hello, just by luck I found the hub/axle nut about to fall off. There were only two turns remaining and the wheel would have fallen of during driving. I jacked up the car and pushed the wheel back and tightened the nut and all is well. But, that was a very close disaster.

I need the flat washer tab with the two ears that are to be bent after tightening the nut to lock it in place - mine had worn off during the years of off/on again use. This is the 75/85 series car. Thank you,

There was a thread about these recently Ty but I can't seem to find it. Look at this link, it's too large I think for yours but I reckon your fantastic Napa stores could come up with something if you take yours to them for a match?  That's of coarse if Bob Hoffman doesn't have them ;D

Guys, I can send you a tracing of that retaining washer. Should be same as my '37 LaSalle. They would be easy to make out of .060" sheet metal. Will take a little time but enjoyable to make... If your name is in the "directory", I can mail you a tracing... John C. Lehman... CLC # 26365...

Thank you John. I have one on the other side I can use as a copy if necessary. I appreciate your offer. I also know I saw them advertised somewhere a few months ago but don't know where.

Hello Steve, thank you for this. Seems I tried to purchase them a long time ago and ended up using the old ones that have recently almost wrecked the car. Still looking. Question: do the ears bend up around a corner of the nut; or down on one of the ribs of the hub? I think the tab in the key keeps the tang from moving but the nut must be held in place by upward bent ears. The ears of mine are worn so short I had bent them down on one of the ribs of the hub.

Parts book says these are the same as 38 so I know then what they look like.  First I don't think these are available anywhere that I know of.  The small ones are but not the big series.  Always anneal these first so they can be bent again without breaking.  There is a cut out on the folded edge that fits on the brake drum hub rib (just one rib on the drum).  Then bent the opposite side down on one flat of the nut.

Thank you Brad, that is the first time I have heard how to properly apply them.

Ty, I posted a link before but it never appeared for some reason.  I recently bought a LaSalle and the axle washers were these in the picture. They work very well by bending two tabs over the drum hub and a couple over the nut flat.  LaSalle are smaller of coarse than yours but these in the link are larger so they must be making all sizes?  You may have to file the inner tab off.
I also saw an add for these in your NAPA stores so its worth taking one of your size into a NAPA store and seeing if they can match it up with this type. Worth a shot?
