Title: 1959 Cad drivers side heater hose routing from water pump
Post by: John Washburn CLC 1067 Sadly deceased. on January 02, 2018, 05:48:56 PM
Folks,

Putting a 59 Cad engine together for a 4 door sedan with no AC.

Question is the heater hose, from the water pump, on the drivers side, run under the intake manifold or on top of the intake manifold?

The two hose brackets seem to indicate that the heater hose runs on top of the manifold on the drivers side.

Confused as Always.

Under the intake nearer to the passenger side.

Both hoses run under the intake manifold. If you want to make it look original overspray some Cadillac Blue from Bill Hirsch on the hoses!  :)

Thanks,

Now if the hoses run underneath the intake what are the two brackets for? They look like they should hold the hoses in place under the intake? I have two of these but not sure what they are for or where they go...

What brackets? I do not remember a bracket, do you have a photo of them?

I believe that these go on the manifold to support the heater hoses. Not sure but I think they attach to the center bolts of the intake one on each side.
Pictures attached.

John,
A diagram and photo of brackets/clips.
On my cars, the bracket/clips are held down by the valley pan bolts.
Hope they help.
Have fun,
Steve B.

They hold the hoses down away from the exhaust crossover so they don't melt. They are held in place by the intake bolt / stud.

Thanks all for the help.

Caddyholc thanks for your input I forgot all about the crossover under the carb. But we blocked that off so not sure will use the brackets, but might just because they are supposed to be there.

Steve B thanks for the diagram, not sure the '59 brackets are held down by the valley bolts.

Again thanks all. I am not a '59 guy but am learning.

I have not seen these on my Tri-Power cars.  Am I missing them?

ive been told that they were std on all ‘59’s but often discarded during engine repair or many actually rusted away from combo of thin metal and engine heat and general corrosion

They are on my 59. As Caddyholic mentioned, attached at intake studs, holding the hoses downward.

Folks,

I know old Bill the head judge will not agree, but since we have blocked off the crossover we don't need these brackets. We will not throw them away and will keep and provide documents to show what function they were engineered for. Then the next care keeper of the 59 can decide if they want to go back to original.

EVERYONE - MEA Culpa - MEA Culpa
Forgive me for I have sinned - and screwed up big time too.
I consulted a couple of friends for whom I have great respect, and although my 3 Biarritz have those brackets attached to the valley pan - they are not correct.
And since these guys have 20 X +++++ more Cads than me, they both concluded, the mounting is off the manifold, regardless of a single quad or tri-power.
I will hang my head in shame, and not further post until the bleeding stops.
Have fun,
Steve B.

I'd be wary to not reinstall them.  Although the crossover is blocked off and burning will no longer be an issue, I'd be worried about vibration and something abrading a hole into one of the hoses.

Well my memory fails me so I need to look closer at my car.

I removed the original hoses in 2016 and did not take off the intake manifold to install the new hoses. I am going to look to see where the clips are since they must be still present on a very original car.

I will let you guys know where they are but maybe I did not route the hose under the clips I do not remember.

Here are the hoses with blue overspray and all.

Also notice the impression in the hose from the clip. I must have run the new hoses under the clips?

John,

Seems the OE hose was molded and I need one also, so I have been watching this one.

You can get the same hose from NAPA for about $15. I'll see if I can find the gates part numbers for the 3/4" and 5/8" hoses
