Most ridiculously priced Cadillac item on eBay?
« on: December 24, 2017, 10:21:02 PM »
Plug wire holder that mounts on a valve cover, prolly fits '68 to '76 eldos, Devilles.

$37.44 + $15.00 shipping.

 :o

Luckily, there are 4 available.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-CADILLAC-ELDORADO-Spark-Plug-Wire-Retainer-4-Wire-Separator-on-Valve-Cover/182979532625?hash=item2a9a6e1751:g:V54AAOSwZkJUTkhG&vxp=mtr

Should be $0.99 and $0.99 shipping and I doubt it would sell at that price.

Any idea how to "ignore" sellers like that on eBay?  I know you can do it on a new search, but not sure how to "save" the setting.  And I think you can only ignore one.

Seems to me, there are one, two or three sellers of the year range car I have (1970) that have their items priced stupidly high.  Nothing ever sells, same items listed month after month after month after month.

Are these doods just "fishin" to see what they can catch?

 >:(

What have you seen?

The map light covers are also really high.  .0004 cents worth of plastic.

ACDelco has new ones that are just about right. I don't have the part # handy. Does anyone have it? I'd like to order some for my car because the ships keep losing mine.

I need new "FLEETWOOD" script for both front corner panels, $400 on eBay, plus shipping.
I'll take 'made in China for $200 including shipping Alex...."

Are Caddy emblems, script so expensive because 1) everyone is restoring them now and its driving the market, or 2) no one is restoring them so there is no market except for the niche?

And $14.99 for shipping that little item.  Way past ridiculous.  Those things are cheap and readily available at any parts store that has Dorman or "Help" displays.  I have a half dozen at least of those things in my "miscellaneous" drawer, also the vertical plug wire holders that slide over the stem on a valve cover screw in the 501 series engines are easy to find.

He's just looking for a sucker that doesn't know any better --- guess they're out there.

Unfortunately that particular ebay seller is close to me.

ONLY $60 for the clock wind knob as well in another listing. Some folks are either too greedy or just don't have any sense.

I notice that his SAME items come up CONSTANTLY in fleabay, so they are not selling.

One guy has an old 1937 front fender for $2500.   ::)

I sold a pair last year for $850 to a member here-- and they were painted and not rusted.

We were just talking about this guy on a Cadillac Facebook page also.  He's nuts.

The guy has two accounts that he alternates his listings on in two separate towns - same items, same pictures.  When they don't sell on one account, they pop up on another with some sort of undetermined factor added to the previous selling price.

He outbid me on a 70 clock on eBay about a year ago.  He listed it on his store the following week for $249 with the same photos as the listing I was bidding on.  It's now up to like $389 or something foolish a year later.  The clock went for $45.

Funny thing is, a week later, I bought a clock on eBay for $25.  It's still ticking in my dash.

Need a dash pad for a 1967-70 Eldorado? How about $1874.99 (plus shipping)?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1967-1968-1969-1970-CADILLAC-ELDORADO-DASH/173049735617

This guy must think that he can finance his entire retirement by parting out one or two old Eldorados.

How do these guys make any money?  Don't the listings cost money?  Seems like the fees the get charged would far out-weigh money made on a sold item.

Or is the expense written off on taxes as a loss against some other income source?

I dunno.

eBay often does a sale where you can list up to 100 items with no listing fees . . . they only take the final value fee if the item sells.

I just cannot, for the life of me, comprehend why the guy adds an exorbitant amount of money to the selling price if the item does not sell when he relists it.

He's got core a/c compressors for $350.00.  I mean, come on.  Really?  Last one I bought like his I paid $16.50 for.  Yeah, the front seal leaks a bit, but it works.

Recent ones that come to mind:    NOS 69 steering wheel for $5000.00

Another is a $300 trunk solenoid that has been listed for years.

As someone else said, at what point do the relisting fees exceed the value of the item?

E-bay needs to clean this up.  Folks selling the same item and relisting it for the same price over and over again has kept me from even going there when I need something.

I've long felt that there needs to be a policy in place at e-bay that says if you don't sell the item for the "free listing" the first time, next time there is a charge, and another charge (slightly higher than the last) if relisted again.  This needs to be repeated with the "graduated" listing cost going up until the seller realizes he's going to have more in listing it over and over again for the same price and not selling it than if he just puts it up for auction at a reasonable reserve.

E-bay used to be an online auction.  Now it's simply a classified ad listing with either a ridiculous reserve or ridiculous "buy it now" price.

My visits are much less frequent.  Not to mention specific searches are anything but.

You mean this one, Dave?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-1961-Cadillac-Trunk-Release-Electric-Opener-Popper-Eldorado-Latch/222772263722?hash=item33de42fb2a:g:im4AAOSwv0tVJhHy&vxp=mtr

Funny thing is, I sold him that solenoid to him for $185.00 along with the glove box button on January 10th, 2015 for $185.00 including shipping.  I had it listed on eBay and he emailed me and begged me to stop the listing as he had a home for it.  Took his money, sent it, and a couple of weeks later, it's made it back on eBay for the current $300 it's been sitting at since then.

I bought it from Brian Faull at Hershey in 2014 for I believe $175.00, but never bothered to install it in the Fleetwood.
