And the worst thing is that it's not too many miles away from me. (I've finally seen one worse that the one I passed up for $300 in 1967...) Remember what Sheldon's former room mate said to Leonard, "Run fast...run far.

It would be fun to bring this car back to life but the price is steep. Recognize a lot of effort has gone into the current restoration but one does not get a return on labor. Chet 25441

It's nowhere near as bad as the one I bought more than 20 years ago. That had been lying in a wrecking yard since 1959 in Maine. There was absolutely no floor from the pedals to the trunk lid, not even a pattern.
I took it on just as an exercise in making floor pans exactly as Cadillac made them but I did go on to eventually finish the car 6 years later.  I don't own it now but it has won more prizes than I can remember.
I take pride in the fact I saved it but you sure need to be a younger man ;D

While I still had a Series 62 hearse in good shape, a friend and I went to Dayton to pick up tires. We had heard of a junk yard not too far away and decided to stop and check it out. Lots of 1930s/1940s cars but the problem was that the owner took advantage of the WWII tire shortage and kept selling the wheels and tires off the cars, then left them sitting on the ground so the floors all rotted away like Steve's car. We found a 1941 Buick Super convertible and with the optimism of (way back then) youth I thought I could swap the cowls and have a cheap 1941 Cadillac convertible.

I drove back the next Monday and went to look at the car again. You never have seen a car deteriorate that much in a week. I lost most of my "rose colored" glasses optimism and returned home empty handed to the joy of my bride. (I had forgotten that the doors had been removed for one thing...)

I ended up selling the engine out of the hearse, parted it out, and haven't really pursued a '41 convertible since. One can dream, though.
