Want to buy:

Cadillac trunk light mercury tilt switch. This small switch is located between the bulb and socket and it is originally carton covered. This is going to -59, but I think it is the same in many other yearmodels too.

I'm kind in a hurry with this issue so please make you offer fast!

Can you post a picture of one? What would one be worth?
When a Doctor "saves a Life" it does not necessarily mean that that life will ever be the same as it was, but he still saved it. My 46 may not be as it was but it is still alive.

I have 3 broken ones in a box, so most likely not worth buying used. High probability that they are all old enough to be no good. They are reproduced……

I wish I knew that too. I have 2 that were not working, took both apart and they both still have Mercury, I even put both lots of Mercury in one switch to see if the amount would make any difference and it did not, the Mercury was making good contact but would not pass electricity even when it was encompassing the contact point. Is there something about Mercury that is not conductible when its 70 years old?? Any metallurgists out there?

Save yourself the frustration of a working/ non-working switch and a possible dead battery from it being constantly on.  They are available as a unit and you could probably retro-fit the internals into your housing for that "Original" look if necessary.  If you still want to rebuild your own, ebay and Amazon both sell mercury micro-switches only, that you could retro-fit to your housing for a few dollars. Hope this helps….

Dam, wish I had known that before I fitted a manual switch Bobby. :(

I see a lot of them now operate with a metel ball rather than Mercury.

I could not remember where I bought two of these a couple of year's ago.  It was from Bob's.  Seems like they were 20 something dollars apiece, and they worked well.

Hello Antti,

did you have problems to get the mercury switch into the European Union? I have read about a ban...

I need one also.

It should be easy to conceal a modern switch in the wire where it is hidden in the cavity between the trunk lid and the inner sheet metal.
