Ty,

I've attached a picuture of my 37 LaSalle with a AAV26 installed. Notice the only change is the heat tube to the exhaust on the passenger side. If you convert to the later AAV26 you only need to change the passenger side exhaust manifold. These are not hard to find.

Only the 1937 and 1938 had the electric choke (AA25 and AAV25) so without converting or making more modifications as listed above that (for looking original) is one real good option. These years had the throttle lever on the carb (early cruise control) which are good for keeping the car running as it warms up.

Finally, I have seen numerous modifications to the AA25 and AAV25 to make a manual choke work. All these were really rough and they had to change the bowl of the carburetor to make it work.

Ok, I'm done rambling.

Ty,

There is a 37 Cad 75 series for sale on E-Bay. It looks like they have installed a later carburetor and an interesting method of connect the heat tube to the exhaust.

You might take a look just for fun.

Hello John W.,
Other than the engine it looks just like mine. Looks in good shape too. It will be interesting to see what it sells for. Do you think the market for our cars has fallen yet? From your pix yours must be a work of art. I know flatter, flatter.......but I mean it.
Thanks,
Ty

This is similar to what you are looking, a AAV26. The choke is not electric like AAV25 but otherwise looks the same. I believe this would be correct for a 1946-48? Correct me if I am wrong.

Hello Mike,
Thank you for your response and the two pix's. As I understand it, the AAV26 was introduced in 1939 for Cadillac. This particular model with the throttle lasted untill 1941. In 1942 a new AAV26 was introduced having no external throttle and some other changes. Different AAV26's were used from 1939 - 48 for Cadillac Models. I defer answering your question to John Washburn in this string. I have found that John is an expert in this field. In fact, John prepared and published a list by year for both Cadillac and LaSalle with reference to type of engines for Stromberg and Carter carburetors and including a replacement casting number list in an earlier issue of the "Self Starter".
