Title: Horn not working
Post by: Eric Voigt on October 01, 2017, 10:11:47 PM
MAJOR change of plans at the last minute for the caravan.  Derham is fighting me like mad to go on this venture.  Every-time I get something fixed and upgraded then another bites me.  With the last round on Friday we decided on get the 41 60S ready as backup and everything checked out but the horn.

They do work however not of the column.  I accidentally hit the column with a wrench when opening the brake master cylinder an it went off.  Nothing from the horn button, possible horn relay?

I am running out of time.....

Eric

One has to check everything with these horn systems.  From the relay to the switch, on the column all the way up to the horn button. Try grounding the wire attached to the column switch. If, like you say you hit the column and the horn sounded you most likely touched and grounded this wire feed.  If it sounds, remove the switch to make sure it still has it's carbon brush and is making contact.  If it's OK then the problem is with the horn button not making contact.
Go very careful with the wire running up the column as these become very brittle. I always replace them but they are always overlooked even with re-wires.

Steve. removed the switch and cleaned all the contacts and now have functional horns.  Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.  Arizona here we come....
