1937 LaSalle coupe

Hello everyone. Will soon be replacing the glass (crank- up window) in the doors of my coupe. I'm needing advise on the the type of weather strip to seal out the rain. As I am looking at my 'Steele Rubber' catalog, it appears that item  # 70-0079-58 would be the correct weather strip to use. This is on page 133 of the 2011 catalog. If I am correct does this weather strip go into the metal sash channel with the glass setting tape? I will also be replacing the metal sash channels and want to know if it would be wise to primer and paint the metal channels? Thanks guys... John Lehman CLC # 26365...

No John, this does not go into the channel with the glass setting tape. On original channels theres a secondary metal flap (for want of a better word) on the outside edge, the rubber you speak of fits in there but these flaps are mostly always rusted off. They actually do very little anyway as the rubber does not reach the top edge of your door, therefor when rain runs down to meet this rubber its already below the top edge of the door so then runs sideways and into the lower levels of your door anyway.
