Hello!
Can anyone out there direct me to John Washburn's article in the Self Starter a few years back that featured a discussion regarding the distributor/oil pump gear which was problematic on the 41?  I no longer have a 41 car, but a few of my members do and a guy from Germany has called me wanting help on this and can't locate John's article.  I recall that there were at least two companies and I think a guy in one of the chapters up north making the replacement gears with the correct pitch and with a better material. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Ken: Can`t help you with John Washburn`s article but here is an article that was written several years ago by Gerald Steelman from MN. I think at one time he was making replacement parts and gears that  he talks about in this article. Possibly he is the one you refer to in your posting. Maybe someone from MN can help if the parts are still being made.     Bill

Hi Ken -

Perhaps you are thinking of Walt Brewer's articles on Flatheads?  Here is a link to his Self-Starter series:

Bill and Tod,
Thanks for the help.  I had the first article, by Steelman, but I think Walt's was the one I was thinking of.  Unfortunately there are no specifics regarding the idler gear in those attached articles.  I'll keep looking.  I thought that the guys at Terrill Machine were making those gears and that they weren't too pricey, but I guess not.  The fellow who is asking for my help on this is in Germany so I may have to refer him to someone there who can physically help him.
Thanks again and happy motoring!

Steve,

Any information on the longevity of those bronze gears from AllCads?

John Washburn CLC 1067 Sadly deceased.

I did write and article about the gears and the guy who made new ones. But I believe he was just doing it for his own use and then sold the rest of them to some vendor. It could have been All Cads.

But the one he sent me is a bronze gear. I sent him an old gear so he could get it, basically destroyed, to determine what it was made of. So "Buddy" made up the best repo gears available.

I tried to look it up in the directory.  It has a listing of 10/1995.  I looked in that issue and could not find it.  Must be a typo.
