Needed a Rumble Seat Handle for a 1937 Lasalle. Please let me know if you have one or know of anyone selling one.

This is another item you need to sit down with your Club Directory and start calling owners of 1937 and 1938 Cadillac/LaSalle convertibles. This is a part that someone picked up at a swap meet years ago "just in case." They are possibly going to be older, and don't use the Forum. Many (read most) of our members do not use the Forum so they will not see your need.

Call during hours people will not be sleeping or having a meal. Most of our members will readily accept cold calls to talk about their cars. Best of luck.

Hi E. I believe the trunk handle and rumble seat handle are the same. I have an extra handle that is in good shape... Will need re-chromed and have to have a key cut. Number is clearly stamped on the handle shaft. Also has original half nut on the end. Handle is $100.00 plus $10.00 for shipping... If you don't like it, send it back and I will send you your $100.00 back... John C. Lehman ... CLC # 26365...

Hello E. I never replaced my scanner, so I can't send photos anymore. Sorry... I know my handle came off a '37 coupe. Try your trunk handle on your rumble seat... John C. Lehman... CLC # 26365...

As per a phone call yesterday , an interchangeability question came up. Rumble seat handle looks same as trunk handle for '37 LaSalles. Are they the same as '37 CAD also ? Do 1936 or 1938 use the same ?   - Carl

Steve Passmore

38 use the same handle Carl but definitely not 1936. They were lethal things with pointed ends. Cad is the same as Lasalle.

I have some questions for the lady. It's always nice to post your first name.
Do you have a handle or is it missing?
If you have one, why are you seeking a replacement?
What is the handle in the picture?
I checked my MPL. It shows it fitting 1937 series 50 & 60 rumble seat lid only.
All the handles look the same. The difference is in the shaft length.
Please advise.

Hi Bob
Thank you for the information regarding the difference in shaft size of the trunk and the rumble seat handle. On the MPL does it state the length of the shaft?
As for the query about the picture, it is the handle that is on the rumble seat now. It has been previous repaired twice before and are concerned that a third repair might just be a temporary fix. This being the case we thought we would try and find a replacement if we could.

Shaft length does not show in the parts book.  With care the shaft lengths can be changed by welding.  It is a hollow shaft so it is not easy but can be done.

Hi Joann. In my previous post, you might want to try and substitute the trunk handle to the rumble seat. The length of my shaft is 1.625" long. Hope this might be of help... Good luck... John C. Lehman... CLC # 26365...

Hi Joann,
As others have said, the MPL does not show lengths. I'm not sure what the problem is with yours. They're  probably places like Final  Touch I'm not sure of the name  ? that can do a correct repair. I would not entrust it to any average shop.

It's probably the usual problem of the steel shaft turning in the die cast.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and help. As it stands now we have someone who is helping us with some of the details of the car and he will pull the handles from the trunk and rumble so that we can measure and determine the difference or lack of difference between them. From there we can determine which route we are going to take.  He will also take pictures and I will post them.

Joann

EMarysiuk

I am posting the pictures of the trunk and the rumble seat handle that shows that the difference. In the end we decided to have the rumble seat handle fixed.

Hi Joann. Just wondering how your handle repair turned out ? Could you post a picture of the repair ? Thanks... John C. Lehman... CLC # 26365...

Hello. Did you ever solve your handle problem? If not, I could make a mold and cast a new one in bronze. I do this for most of the 1927-1931 handles. If you want to go this way, send me an email to yachtflame@yahoo.com
