I have ordered a new exhaust system for my 55 Fleetwood. I would like to install the flex pipe that goes over the exhaust pipes. The exhaust pipes are 2" diameter o.d. what size i.d. flex pipe should I order? I have searched previous post but could not find what i.d. was purchased only that it is a real pain to install.

Thanks,

Bob,

My ’56 has the 2” O.D pipes and I had to use the flex SS pipes at 2 ¾” OD in three pieces (if I recall I got them from AutoZone a long time back) and tack welded them together once they were in place. It was a pain to get the first pieces to go over the sharp bends while twisting and using some form of persuasion (hammer and wood block) to slide them all the way.

If I have to do it over again with just a single piece I would go with at least 3 ¼” and with two pieces a 3” would probably do it, just to make it easier to go over the bends.

Good luck..!

JC Whitney had what they called "flex pipe" that is stainless, looks
like the original and comes in various diameters.

I haven't checked recently, but it's worth a shot in case you can't find it
locally.  I bought some a few years back, it's good quality.
