.I found a post on Facebook a few months ago. A custom builder in Calif maybe who was repopping the impossible to find rear fender trim. He had the original factory dies. I have lost his details. . . . Academic cos I couldn't afford them presently but it was fascinating that they could be had. Had someone else come across him and know his details. I meant to post it here but was lazy and now regret it.
Ps anyone got a spare 47 foglight housing? The swine who stole a heap of my 53 parts also took one of these as well from my filling cabinet. . . . As well as my rechromed 53 housings. . . . .

For a while there was a guy in Ohio making 48-49 rear fender trim for coupes and convertibles from dies that I think he made himself.  He was selling them for lots of $s but stopped production several years ago.

Yes, if I recall, the guy in Ohio was casting them in Bronze, and delivering them ready to be chromed.  At the time, he had what I understood to be the only set of dies in existence for the 42-47 rear spears.  I had a telephone conversation with him, and he sent me some info via snail mail several years ago that I may still have.  If my memory is correct, he had purchased the dies from someone else many years prior.

The cost for each one at the time was a bit more than I had paid for my car.

He made his own dies and stamped them out of modern metals that wouldn't rot but that was 8-10 years ago. I called him when he happened to be in calif fishing back then while dropping off his last 13 sets of 48-9 coupes spears @ the chrome shop. I should of bought his last set for $1,800 shipped but passed.

I spoke to the guy who made the dies. He says the guy in Calif who purchased them still has not figured out how to make the spears with the dies.  They are for the 48/49.  This must be the guy, and maybe he has sorted it out now. The strange part is that apparently he was forming the spears with two pieces of metal and doing some kind of weld or braze, presumably at the "point" on the profile. I'd be really interested in seeing the end product!

Wouldn't it be easier to make the die from scratch providing you have a decent template? Is there that much of a demand for them?  ???
