Total 1948 Production Quantity was 6,561 cars. First Year for the Tailfin Inspired by the P-38 Aircraft; One Year Only Rainbow Shaped Instrument Panel Pod; 346 Cu. In. Flathead V8; Milestone Car Society Member; Custom Crafted by Fleetwood from the "B" Pillar Back. Car is operable but needs master cylinder to drive; Engine runs but needs rebuild.  Hydramatic works as it should. Rebuilt carb, generator, new voltage regulator, rotary electric fuel pump, new drive shaft U joints. For a restoration or resto-mod, the car will need everything. Condition would be between #4 and #5. It is a good straight car with no rust through except the usual place on the front fenders above the fog lights and below the headlights where the dirt collects on top of the fog light "boxes" and the accumulated dirt holds the moisture against the inside of the fender. Hydraulic power windows replaced with manual crank up windows.  The bias ply tires have a lot of tread, but they are old and should be replaced.  All five tires match and hold air which is good when it comes to setting up the suspension and checking for correct ride height.  The hubcaps are 1955 Cadillac.  I do not have the correct 48 sombrero hubcaps.  Body #5067

Hi Steve, It's just tired.  I have driven the car to Pueblo CO and return about two years ago.  It runs fine, but after it heats up you can hear rods knocking as the oil pressure starts to drop.  I was tempted to just replace the rod bearings and give it a paint job plus do other mechanicals and use it.  However, I had the opportunity to buy a totally rebuilt '55 engine and hydramatic so was going to make a resto rod out of it, and install all the comforts of home like AC, navigation system and the whole deal, as I just love the looks of this car.  The lifters are very quiet and compression is not horrible.  It starts up immediately.  I've done a number of things to it such as dig all the sludge (clay) out of the pan, clean the distributor drive tower which was leaking oil out on the ground, etc.  The crux of the matter is this:  Upon returning from a vacation trip in May of 2017, my wife fell down the front steps and hit her head on the driveway and was in ICU for three weeks then another 4 weeks in long term acute care and is now in a long term nursing facility.  This has been going on for fifteen months with no end in sight.  With new demands on my time, I have decided that I've got too many cars at age 73 and need to thin out the fleet.  Finishing Mr. Sloan's car will be more than enough for me at this point.  Hate to say goodbye to this one as I have had it over 11 years, but prudence dictates otherwise.

Regards
Whit 1188

That's normal for a Flathead  ;D...

Sorry to hear about your good lady Whit. I have a little experience of that myself only not lasting as long as your misfortune. My wife fell earlier this year and landed on her face breaking her nose and getting two black eyes,  Then did it again two months ago this time removing all the skin from the same protrusion.  She recovered quickly thank goodness but I can see your predicament.

Is the car in Colorado?

To those interested, I have taken a lot more detail pictures of the underside of the car.  It is a good solid car with the exception of the rust between the headlights and fog lights and the battery box.  The usual rust catchers such as the areas surrounding the fender skirt mounting hardware are very solid.   I also removed everything from the trunk and took pictures showing the condition of the sheet metal in there.

Paint Code: 4K, Tyrolian Gray; Trim Code: 47C; Body #: 5067; Style #: 48-6069X
