Never used one.  It was a period accessory that was used in the 30's - 50's
timeframe.

As to how well it works, I don't know.  They still sell them on fleabay and
elsewhere.

First one I've ever seen was at the Good Guys show a few months back on this virgin 47 Chrysler that has been in his family since new.

Basically the idea was you could use the forward facing mirrors reflection in the rearward facing mirror to see ahead of the car in front of you.
