I have a 1967 convertible DeVille that I bout back in march. When I purchased the car it started right up no probably the next few month I sporadically drove it around the block or so just for kicks.... Then I changed plugs, wires, oil change new battery... Then i started taking it out a little further about 4-5 miles a trip still no problem. Then I drove it the last time and i noticed my gen light would come on when i would stop(at a light or sign) but would go off when I accelerated. So I took it home drove it the drive way and after a few minutes of still running in the driveway it grumbled a little and turn off.. I tried cranking it back up and it turned over but didn't crank. I figured it wasn't anything and  I would just start it back up another day and ...... It would turn over but never crank...

Thing tried:
Tested fuel pump
Replaced fuel filter
Replace fuel lines
Cleaned Carb
New battery lines and post
New Ignition coil
new fuel sock
Compression test all reading at least 135 except 1

Could this switch possibly be the culprit?

It looks like a broken wire there. Is that correct or just a bad picture?
Does this still have points? If so, change the condensor before you do anything else. They are not expensive and can cause problems when they go bad.
The things you mentioned-are they what you have done since the last time it ran, or just since you have had the car? Is the fuel new or old? Did you change fuel filters in the pump and carb?----- be careful with the threads on the carb.
Go back to basics--Do you have spark? Is there fuel in the bowl?
I see this is your first post. Please give as much detail as possible. People here (not me) will amaze you with what they know, but need all available info.
Oh yah, the first question is free.... after that we need pictures!!
Good luck

Jeff,

Yes, it looks like this wire is connected but isn't wrapped. I will tape it up this evening.

Those are the things that i've tried since I stopped cranking.

Yes i'm getting a good spark on all the plugs and there is fuel in the bowl, can filter in carb, new fuel

If you have air, fuel and spark (spark at the right time) the engine should run --- something is being missed here.  None of the wiring connections at that switch look very good, particularly the one Jeff Rose mentioned.  They should all be checked for soundness and continuity.  If they are not soldered together, but merely wrapped, redo them all with, at a minimum, the proper size solderless connectors using a proper squeezing tool, not a pair of pliers.  No bare wire should be visible outside of the solderless connector.  BTW, the pink wire is the ignition hot wire to the coil.

Updated info: It cranked ran for a few minutes then died. Voltage at the coil was  (negative) -5.7V from the coil.

5.7 while running, I hope.  ::)  Do you have the correct coil in there? Ballasted/ Non-ballasted? What's the voltage at the coil while stationary and cranking? Sounds like that might be one issue. Is that spring around the coil attached to anything that would affect the metal around the coil that the condenser is on?

Isn't that condensor on the outside of the coil just for radio noise?
I didn't see your reply on this-- does it still have points?

That is the throttle return spring and yes, the condenser on the coil is to help reduce AM radio noise.  It serves no other function and could be eliminated if desired but AM radio static noise might well increase.
