Maximum image width?
« on: August 10, 2012, 12:46:25 AM »
Hi folks,

I've been look at the "Restoration Blog" a lot recently, and the way that the SimpleMachines Forum does images sure isn't too wonderful.
This issue might have already been brought up before, but for high-res images, they fit the page very poorly when they expand, still embedded at the bottom of a post.

Maybe it'd be better to set a maximum image width? It changes the behavior a lot. This has probably been discussed before; if so, disregard this.

I installed SimpleMachines on my hosting to screw around with it. If you set a maximum image width, it'll open images in a new window when clicked. Testing this on the Chrome browser, re-sizing the new window re-sizes the image, and clicking on the image will toggle window fitting & full size. Internet Explorer seems to have the same behavior.
Here's the example of it:

Try it out. Maybe this would be a better way of doing the images?

That's not your car! C'mon!
Actually, it was really weird to just see a F40 parked on the street in Berkeley. It wasn't a car show or a rally or anything, some guy/gal was apparently just driving it around, I guess. There was the usually miscellaneous daily-driver junk strew about in it, too. I thought maybe it was just a kit car, but if it was, it must have been the most perfect kit car ever, since even the manifolds on the engine said "Ferrari".

Doesn't help much with linked image though

Not, I'm not suggesting the img tag be disabled. I'd much prefer people learn how to resize images or  use thumbnails linked to the full image instead.

Perhaps install a decent gallery with hooks for the forum that will automatically do the thumbnails.
