Looks great. How did you make the letters? The new cars are made with stencils i guess. Use them enough and the back round is gone. How do you fix that.

Jon S

The factory used a process known as silk screening to apply the lettering. I had a local professional copy my original silk screened lettering and make up dry transfers replicating the exact fonts.

No way to fix worn silk screening except touch up with a brush which looks funky.  That's why I had these new letters made up.

One thing I did on my valve covers and look great.
I painted the valve covers white, then applied the sticker stencil, then sprayed the blue and peeled the stickers off, so it's all painted, no sticker, then I sanded with 2000 grit and clear coated.
Could probably do the same for the other parts that used paint

How does Jon's lettering process, and clear coat, stand up to the heat of the engine and compartment.

Not negative - just curious.

Have fun,

On the valve cover, where did you get the stencil? Looks great!

Jon S

Re-did the cover. Letters were too close to the center nut before:

Nice. I wonder if I can fine a local company to do the snorkel's "Cadillac 472 "

Ummmm,  I detect a stainless steel hose clamp there.  :P
Regards,
"Cadillac" Mike

Jon S

This hose clamp discussion has been discussed many times.  In 1958 these are the original hose clamps and I have provided pictures of several other original 1958's with the exact same clamps.  This was a Purchased new 1958 and my father kept everything as is and re-used the original clamps. Tower clamps were not used in 1958.

Likewise the original fuel pump which should have a slanted top was never painted blue but was an aluminum cast from the factory - no paint. The only painted blue fuel pump was on the display engine at the New York Colosseum in 1958.  I was there.

Unfortunately the authentication manual is incorrect.

I really don't want to open that can of worms again. I am one of a few (or the only) owner of a bought new family owned 1958 and I worked on the car from the start. My dad was a stickler for keeping all of his cars 100% original.

Very nice Jon. I did not know that tower clamps were not used in '58. Keep up the good work. Clay/Lexi
