Part# for temperature switch on the engine block - 69 Deville

Hi,

Does anyone know what the original GM part # are for these switches.

- Engine metal temp switch
- Heater/coolant temp switch

Mine is 69 deville.

Thanks Jason, exactly what I was looking for...

The 6489287 showing as a 69 part in the Crankcase ... I was not aware of this. Is there a temp sensor in the crankcase as well for the 69?

Crankcase must be the technical term for  "block". There's no way a switch will be Inside the engine. It's probably just located a little lower on those years.

The switch they are calling for in the "crankcase" is the "water" light sensor.
The two cylinder head sensors are: #D-1870 for the sensor in the right  cylinder head for the heater turn on , and D-1872 fore the temperature warning sensor in the driver's side head.
Apparently these sensors were individually tested because there is a hand scratched temperature number (120.1 and 320) on the wrench flats of these sensors.

The manual talks about a water temp switch under the AC compressor, is this a similar bolted switch like the other two? This is the switch linked to the water temp light.

G'day Muhammad,

The one that is being referred to is the main sensor that operates the Temperature Warning Light, when the coolant temperature is getting out of hand.

It screws into the front of the block, and into the coolant passage, and gives the driver instant notification of the impending problem.   This is used instead of a Temperature Gauge.

The blind sensors are totally different, and do not touch coolant at all.

The small sensors will fit the same holes, but the large one will not.

The easiest way, if you cannot read any of the numbers is to place each one in the left rear hole, and if the Stop Engine warning light comes on, and the buzzer sounds whilst the engine is warming up, then that one goes to the right front position.

The only one making the same switches WAS Standard, and the numbers for the D-1870 WAS TS 72.  The D-1872 was a Standard TS-312. ALL OF WHICH ARE LONG SINCE DISCONTINUED.

I can tell you for sure the wrong way to test them is with a torch, the flame kind, not the light kind.  If you try and test one that way all you find out is that the plastic kinda oozes out of it.

A few years ago you could still get them from the 80's that had metric threads that would still sorta fit in the older engines but I would guess by now those 80's ones are also NLA.
