I just heard about the 5% discount Hagerty Insurance offers CLC Members.  I jumped on a chat with a rep and she said she'll be sending a check.  No fuss. No muss.

I doubt this is news for everyone, but it was for me.

My 5% will cover about 1/2 of the cost of my CLC membership.

Just trying to get the word out.

Hi Wes:

Thanks for that info.  A 5% discount is really nice!

I just called Hagerty and that saved me $80.
The check is in the mail.  I wonder how long
they've been doing this?

I told the gal on the phone they owe me for
about 20 years worth -- that got me a chuckle
but no dice.

I can’t believe I wasn’t aware of this; been with both Hagerty and CLC for over half of my life. Will call soon.

Wes,

OK - HO-DE-PHONE.

I called Hagerty this morning to cash in on my discount, only to learn - OH NO, NOT FOR YOU.
I live in CA. and no CLC discounts for us.
And, we are not alone - Mass. OR & Tenn. are also out of luck.

The only discount our State Insurance Commission allows is the Safe Driver Discount, worth 20%.

As I have said several times before - although I live here - CALIFORNIA SUCKS.

Have fun - rest of the states,

Steve,

Sorry to hear your tale of woe about CA & the 5% discount.  Do you qualify for the safe driver discount?

I’m in CA too; at least I wasn’t missing out on something I was entitled to all these years.  Might not get the discount, but at least I get to drive my cars year round.

Not often you make money just by reading this forum.
My check for $55.00 is on its way.

I can do that here in Florida too and without a crushing state income tax.

Wes,
Yes I do, try to drive safe - but there are others that are not so caring sharing the road.
But, now that I have said that, I have messed with karma.

Oh, isn't it just like David to find the pony in a pile of manure - LOL.
Yes David, sunshine is good - the rest is Humbug.

Have fun,

Gentlemen,
Living in the sun belt may have benefits but can also develop cultural atrophy. In the northeast we’ve developed the Special Forces to respond to all the autonomous and electric vehicle Morlaches.

We developed advanced driving skills in our daily slalom around potholes while still multitasking such things as texting, one hand breakfasts and even application of eye makeup.
We have great comradery with fellow drivers as demonstrated by the many one hand “Jersey waves” seen on the roads during rush hours.
We’ve learned to get by on a six figure income after taxation takes the lion’s share.
We have green, eco-friendly solutions to seasonal driving problems: Snow? “God put it there - let God take it away”.
We keep mentally and physically sharp avoiding pedestrians wondering into crosswalks looking at their phones.
We also have on road entertainment in the form of smutty or double entendre messages on courtesy license plates that somehow got passed by the DMV.....Seeing two in one day is a sign of good luck.

See, there’s a bit of sunshine everywhere,  ;)

Ralph

Ralph:

I don’t think that here in urban Northern California we are at risk of the cultural atrophy you describe. No snow, perhaps fewer “Jersey waves,” but we’ve got all the rest, especially potholes, smartphone junkies, self-righteous Prius drivers doing 55 in the left lane, and, to make up for the somewhat mellower drivers, a very militant breed of bicyclist. I take a bus to work, and it is amazing the driver conduct I see looking down through all those sunroofs; makeup, shaving, soduku, newspaper reading . . .

Steve:

I’m not usually known for finding the pony in the manure; usually the other way around.

Ralph,
I want to know more about you putting on your eye makeup.

David,
Stories I have heard make you out to be a lucky guy.
Now to this, you ride to work on a bus - you are such the Road or Eco Warrior - or your bus is actually a $250K Blue Bird Motor Home with your driver.

Have fun, feeling a bit playful this morning.

Steve:

Hmm. . . . Lucky?  Where are you getting your stories from?  Certainly not here, where you could read about my ‘59 catching on fire a ways back, or my ‘60 stranding me in the desert on the way to last year’s GN. Or the stupid things I do in my driveway.  As for the bus, these days the bus is just a commute into the big city. Nearly as quick as driving, far cheaper, nice view over Golden Gate Bridge when I’m not staring into sunroofs, and plenty of time to put on makeup, do my nasty car geek nails, trim the Mohawk and play with my phone without worrying about rear-ending a BMW.  A driver?   That  will have to  wait until they take my keys away, when I cash out the collection, buy a ‘59 Series 75 and plant myself in the back.
