In a few models of 1942 the front fenders come back on the front doors and under the part on the doors there is a small sliver of steel and originally there was a rubber on it to seal the door.  It was apparently beveled so the inside part touched the bottom of the door?  Have replacements ever been available?

In that same position on my old 1936 70 series, it has a skinny metal channel and the rubber below fitted into it. Was it anything like that Gary?

Steve, While you were posting I was in the process of adding a couple of pictures a non member sent from his 1942-6719.   The rubber was apparently glued to the sliver and there are 3 unusual holes in the top of the sliver so there was some sort of metal fasteners. There is no access from below so the fasteners were unusual?

Ah, I see. That's completely different to what I had in mind.

I think I will end up carving one out of wood and painting it with a rubber based paint if there is such a thing. Maybe a rubber cement?? Glue it on and hope for the best? It appears to be tapered to create a seal to keep drafts out?

Looks like you could better tin snip a piece out of metal and then coat it with that rubberized dip available for coating the handles of tools etc. Works very well on other metal parts originally rubber coated that I've fabricated. Would be black like original, too.

Thanks for the input Chuck.  I think it may be too thick to do it that way and it appears to be thicker in the back (inside) than in the front but I am not sure of that. Not sure though!

I love all of the ideas that bounce around in this forum.  A lot of ingenuity expressed!

I would personally carve that from a lump of rubber Gary. Solid rubber can be cut with a hacksaw and shaped with a 4" angle grinder and a very fine disc. Because of the high shipping cost we have to fabricate many parts here.

That piece looked quite thin to me so that's why I suggested the metal core. What was it made of originally?

Sorry, I see that you already said it was a sliver of steel. I would definitely cut the piece out of metal, rivet it back to your panel(?) and then "paint" that rubber dip coating over it until you achieve the thickness that you need. Judging by your photo, that seems to be the best way i see to accomplish the task.

The steel part is capped with rubber which is a seal to keep out wind and water I assume. The rubber part is horizontal and basically only can only be seen while looking down at the top of it when the door is open.

I wish you lived next door to me so I could come over and show you what I mean or be able to see the part in person.
I'm not able to see perspective much from your photos but that piece that is separated from the other and that appears to be cracked at the tip was riveted to the other section, right? And was it constructed of metal? If so, on the new piece I suggested you make, coat it all in that black rubberized coating on the outside of it and then when it has set up, drip a small bead across the top edge of it (where you had described the steel part as being capped by rubber). Does that make any sense or am I all wet?

Chuck, the frame in the background of the first picture is the metal part and part that looks sort of like a letter opener is hardened rubber material. The pictures were mailed to me so I have not seen the actual items.

The steel part has three recesses that appear to accept some sort of push in fastener.  The rubber part can only be seen when the doors are open and it appears they are for appearances and to keep a draft from  coming in under the door. Not going to change my schedule because I can put these on at any time in the future.
